One of the great things about having an estate plan is that it enables you to make choices about where your assets will go after you pass. Putting a bequest in your estate plan is a great way to support a cause you care about. Most philanthropies and nonprofit institutions have someone who handles bequests—often called ‘planned’, ‘estate’, or ‘legacy’ giving—within their development or fundraising department. Your estate planning attorney can communicate with that development officer on your behalf to plan a bequest and make sure your money is put to the greatest use.
